I have 2 fly reels I recently purchased and need some information on them. One is a Abu Zebco Cardinal 178 fly reel and the other is a Beaulite Shakespeare England.Just wondering if these 2 are rare and if they have any value?

I can't help on the Zebco other than to say it is the same as the Abu Diplomat, the number starting with one means it was made in Sweden. The Beaulite was made by JW Young and is a great reel, as solid and dependable as anyone could ask. Young made reels are very popular with members on the board. Hope this is some help.

No real value on the Zebco, they were available used but good for around $20 a few years ago when I last bought one. But they are handy and relatively sophisticated reels. I've landed Mahseer to 8 lbs and Coho to 15 lbs on mine. Use or back up.

look on the reel foot of the Abu, it probably says 'made in Japan'
I'm not sure these were ever made in Sweden as they date to the twilight years of Abu, just before it went under as an independent company and got conglomerated.
I have 3 of these, two Japan-made and one Korean-made. They are all fine reels and great value, with decent drags and a nice quiet clicker. Not valuable unfortunately, but good fishing reels.

The Beaulite is a late model Young as arknymph says. It's a fine reel but also not a collector's item, value probably $60-80 or so.

The Abu is a fly reel. Nice, but nobody's going to be going crazy to get one unless they ARE crazy. The Young made Shakespeare's are a very good and reliable reel. However, they're not rare. If anything, they were one of the most popular reels in the UK in their day. I own a few myself that I fish regularly.

I happen to think these reels are great... a little over-worked.. but still workable.
