That was back in the 50's. I not only don't have it, but can't remember what it was. :(

Still have mine. A Cortland fly reel, no model number (re-branded Martin I believe). It came with a kit I bought for my high school graduation, more than a few years ago. I still have the 8' 6" Cortland fiberglass fly rod that came with it, rated for an 8 wt. Hardly the ideal outfit for Ozark trout fishing, but I fished for a number of years. Dropped the real, and it is a bit balky now. Had not fished the rod in many years, but did take it trout fishing last year for sentimental sake. Worked out just fine, not a bad rod for indicator fishing.

That is a strange protruding spot for the drag adjusting knob bulldog1935 - part of why you hate it?

I don't want to step on any toes. it's derived from the O/C 76, internal caliper clicker and a friction thumbnut.
None of it works very well. I'll take a Martin click-pawl any day.

Nice to "hear your voice" again. How's the ribs doing and how is your wrestling daughter doing?

Nope - not for a long time. Lost it to the bottom of the Blackfoot River (1973)somewhere between Roundup and Bonner. The rented (in Missoula) raft we were floating in had a couple of leaks, went over a 6 foot falls, the raft collapsed and the rod and reel were gone. Crap happens!!!

Still have my first, Medalist 1494 and Eagle Claw 7' (now 6'10") W&M/Eagle Claw Sweetheart glass rod. Got the outfit for my 13th bday in 1964. Still fish the 1494 occasionally. Many fond memories!

I don't have the first , or second or probably third. I was young and could only afford south bend 1122. Lovely reel with a pawl made of tin I guess because I went through at least 1 a year. Also had to use my sister's fingernail polish to keep the screws in. And the click drove my fishin' buddy crazy. Of course I was a young teen and fished a bit every evening all summer. Now I'm 61 and bought a couple vintage ones a few years ago for nostalgia. Sadly, they are still pretty and cheap and sound shrill when used. And need cheap fingernail polish. Good only for admiring. I think there is a lesson there but will leave it alone. Phil.

ha. The SB 1122 looks a lot like my first reel which was Shakespeare 2530, with all those delightful features ;-) except the pawl lasted well, instead the gear teeth wore out..

no nostalgia for that reel. I've owned very few pieces of fishing tackle that I could not love, this is one of them..

Not quite. The colors are actually reversed, and the handle is black.

Can anyone tell me how to upload?

The 67 series reels were produced for a long, long time and came in various cosmetic/finish variations: here are some more. Not sure if one like yours is shown, but with the search function, you can find a lot of Martin pics: viewtopic.php?p=128648#p128648

A few more would be welcome: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2353

Perfect ! You have the upgraded model MG-7, based on the 67 series, but with battleship gray finish, ported backplate, and machined foot. They were first made and marketed as lighter, which they are, and thus better matched to the then-new lighter graphite rods. Never noticed before that the stamping could easily be read as M6-7.

Here's a duplicate from the catalog posted by Middlemac in "reel papers," which I will also link. For more of the catalog, see post number 5. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1366

To the guys who have had problems with the South Bend Finalist reels, especially the SB 1122, I have to say that I have nothing but praise for them. I have never had one wear out nor have I had screws come loose, nor any problems what so ever. I believe they are as good as any of the click and pawl reels. As for the SB 1133, it is the 1122 on steroids. The 1133 is heavier and has a pretty good adjustable drag. Plus, I like that funky red color. But, to each his own. If I had the same bad experiences with them I would not like them either.

My first fly reel was a Pflueger Progress. I have no idea what ever happened to it. So, I just recently bought another one just for nostalgia reasons. My first really good reel was a brand new Medalist 1492 that used on a Shakespeare Wonderod. The rod and the reel were both stolen. When I was in my early 20's, I bought a new Martin 72 multiplier for salmon and steelhead that would come into shallow water on the shores of Lake Huron during the early fall. That Martin is a great reel and i still have it.
