Can anyone tell me the line/rod weights for the Daiwa 731A? I think it would be 6-7 weight. (maybe 6-8 wt) Here is a list I made. If I am wrong on these weights, please correct me.

Daiwa 706 4,5,6 wt
Daiwa 708 7,8,9 wt
Daiwa 730 3-4 wt
Daiwa 731A 6-7?
Daiwa 732 7-8 wt

I guess nobody knows? It says AFTMA 7. But I think it would take a DT6-WF8. Surely it wouldn't be just a 7wt only? I happen to have one. It was set up for lhw when I got it. I switched it to rhw. There is only one spring. Only sound is when you retrieve.

I had one of these and sold it to another board member, it's a solid reel with a great drag. I think you're good with 8WT line.

Thanks Les. I am glad you like these reels. I wish it had a sound when line was pulled out. But it does look like a solid reel to me too. This particular one was in excellent shape.

those are fine reels. I have had many of them but only have a 708 now which is loaded with a 5 line. The reels are light and while they will hold the designated lines there is not much room for backing nor will they balance well on longer rods. I know you will play with them and find what is best for you.

Thanks for your thoughts Rockthief. I have all of these besides the 706. (on the list above) That one I will get in due time. I will have to remember to use shorter rods. I am not into really long rods, so that is fine with me. 8 1/2 is about the longest rod I have, if I remember right.

If you are going to collect reels then the Daiwa 700s are an excellent choice. They look good on a variety or rods, they are durable, and they are not expensive. Good fishing to you. :)

You came up with the magic words ... lol. Yes, the 700 series seem to be very nicely made reels, for the price. I am happy to have these in my line up.
