This may be the first Paddock yellow rod built since Fred changed over from the natural color blanks. It's his 8' 5 weight model that I regard as one of the finest casting 8' 5 weight rods that I've ever had in my hands. To say that I like it would be a gross understatement. That aside, I finished it out with my standard reel seat using a nicely grained olive wood spacer that I obtained from Jerusalem Israel. I used Pearsalls Naples antique gold and 6/0 black silk for the wraps, Snake brand universal snakes and a Mildrum 8 mm stripper.
Mark.

Tomah, I would bet folding money that it's not "simple" to build a reel seat like that! Nobody else that I've seen builds them like that!

Very nice. The olive wood looks great with the rod and wraps. I'm glad you (and many others) enjoy the tapers, that is what I spent a lot of time trying to get right. The 805-3 just feels nice, enjoy.

A marvelous creation Mr. McKellip! Paddock lemon peel blank and your artistic aesthetics - great match!

Great build! The transition from the reel seat to the grip is beautiful...

Two very talented builders. I'm lucky to have rods built by both.

Could this be the raffle item at Michiglass&grass? Or is there some other special rod?

From the comments on the taper from Mark... I think that rod will stay with him!

Classic look and nice job Mark. This taper was a pleasure to test cast last summer.

Tip over butt. I have the same rod in white built by Fred, very nice rod.

The rod I have from Mark is a Steffen. Mark's finish work is top notch (as is Fred's). Both are the nicest finished rods I own. They are the kind of rods you pull out of the tube to look at when you can't fish.
