Bob, that's one beautiful and nicely appointed fly rod. Looking forward to casting one at the clave, or maybe on Big Fishing Creek next spring!

Very nice looking fly rod. Green and white is a great color combination for the wraps. Three section rods are very handy.

If you are able to report, I was wondering how this rod compared to the McFarland 805 black s-glass 8' two section five weight rod? The 805 was a nice casting rod. Interested to know if your taper on the 8' 1" five weight is at all similar to the McFarland 805 black s-glass?

Awesome work as always. I'm looking forward to casting/fishing these rods. I will say that if you don't own a hallowell rod you should get one. Bob is a true craftsman and builds some of the finest rods I have ever seen. His bamboo rods are incredible both in appearance and function. Congratulations bob

Congratulations on the new rods BobHa. The build looks great and those cherry inserts are an excellent example of what fly rod jewelry should look like. FANTASTIC!

I have to ask; does your daughter show signs she may catch the rod building bug?

Guys if anyone is interested in having the demo mailed to them to play with let me know. It is in New Mexico right now looking for a place to go.

Thanks
Bob

Hello all, first time posting here. Recently purchased Bob's 8'1" 5wt and have only taken her out in the lawn so far, but must say, she's a real black cherry of a peach. Bob asked me do say a few words... Mid-flex (which is perfect in a 5wt IMO), lightweight, extremely smooth with some Rio Gold in the reel, and can shoot the distance with ease. I'm no components expert or anything, but the burled seat and grip really stand out, there's a certain eloquence and simplicity to the seat that's hard to explain. Ought be the kind of rod one just grabs and fishes with when one of those spur-of-the-moment chances to get out on the water comes along, nothing too fancy, but certainly not understated, will definitely be the go-to 5wt this upcoming season.

Bob was a pleasure to do business with and kept me updated on the status. He also seems open to a little customization here and there, but the rod really doesn't need it (and might ruin his overall goal?). Well worth the price and comes with a nice tube and sock too.

Thanks again, Bob!

Bryan

Just did some lawn casting with 406 Lines' 5wt weight forward paired with the 4/5 Ross Colorado LT on Bob's rod... SWEET COMBO!!! Can already imagine the wrist and arm fatigue fading away, super lightweight setup. Now, if only the season would start...

Does anyone who has had the pleasure of using the 8'1" 5wt have any insight into the flies it will handle? Is it primarily a trout rod, or can it handle some warmwater crossover action with lighter streamers and small poppers?

I haven't fished the rod, but have cast Bob's demo rod. It is not a specialized rod. It is a great, do it all 5wt. It is a general purpose east coast trout rod, which includes small streamers and would handle small poppers fine. It's a good nymphing rod too.

It's a modern take on a traditional rod.
