Glacier,

I'm sure they work great on faster glass as well even though I haven't tried them on any Epics. I have however used and fished them on medium to medium fast graphite with great results.

The 3wt is perfect for my Epic 376.

Yes - On a number of rods and they are great as well. I've fished my WF5 406 on 7.5' and 8' Walton Powells and an 8.5' Max Yerxa...its was excellent on all of these. It's just a really good 5wt line that casts well on older cane rods for me.

Hi guys,

Well this is Tom from 406 Fly Lines. Used to be tabrods but had trouble logging in hence the name change and late replies.

GR: 406 lines work really well with Epic rods - I have several and they all cast equally fine. The Epic is faster for glass but still retains that glass feel so there's no problems at all.

Joie F: We spent the Summer at a few Bamboo claves and the lines were well received at all of them. Of note was Grayrock in MI with some of the finest cane builders in the country in attendence. We had many tryouts and sold a number of lines over the course of three days which included MichiGlass. Bob Summers in MI, a name familar to cane fans, is a dealer for our lines and recommends them for his own builds.

I'm slow to change things I like. I've used the Cortland Peach DT lines for decades. After reading this thread no one mentioned how they compare. Can someone help me with this?

edit...I guess it doesn't matter. The lines are sold out.

Lines are not sold out, I spoke with Tom yesterday, I believe there was some problems with the website. I would suggest sending Tom a PM. As far as a comparison goes I feel strong enough about the lines to use them on all of my glass rods.

Exactly what Dusty said.
I was having a hard time ordering but got through and had the lines 2 days later.

What difference do you feel? I understand being smaller in diameter and the advantages it has. Anything else?

I recently did a lawn casting session where I tried, among other lines, a same-weight DT Peach and a DT 406 with a couple of different rods. In each case, I either preferred the 406 or thought the lines were about equal. And with the exception of one rod, I think for each rod they were my top two choices of all the lines I tried, though in a few cases it was really splitting hairs. As to how they compare, I don't know that I can be more specific than to simply say that in general my loops were tighter and my casts looked better with the 406 - again, in some cases the lines seemed about the same; perhaps with more extensive testing I'd be able to discern a measureable difference. I think both lines are great for glass, but I do favor the 406.

As for other comparisons/differences: the 406 is thinner than the Peach (I don't know the actual diameter of each, but it's apparent to the naked eye); and, depending on the light conditions, the Peach can be easier to see on the water as the 406 is a more stealthy/neutral color (I guess opinions could vary as to whether better visibility favors the fish or the fisherman).

Hi Creek,

Oh Boy! We are not sold out - I don't know what happened but we have lots of stock. If the website was giving you a problem PLEASE let me know at tom@406fllines.com.

My wife and I both tried ordering and it worked so I'm hoping you had a isolated problem.

If anyone else had an issue ordering let me know and we'll take care of it.

Tom

Sorry Tom. I clicked on the link in post #37 without making sure it was your web site. It was sold out, but certainly not on your site. My bad.

Just one more data point on thickness - I was able to fit a DT6F on a System 6 reel with tons of backing; most people find that WF6F is the most that will fit comfortably with conventional lines. It's really nice to be able to use smaller reels on shorter rods, which is icing on the cake of these fantastic lines.

Hi

I use them on every one of my glass rods now from Ijuin 7003 to seele 886 and epic 476 and think they are a great lines and seem to be very durable.

I like them enough that I am now selling down under.

Finally got a chance to try out the two 406 lines i bought this weekend. Ran a dt5 on my phillipson master 6 weight 7 ft and a wf6 on my 6 weight 7.5 ft orvis golden eagle. These lines made both rods sing. I had been using Wulff bamboo special on both. 406 made both rods cast better than they ever have. I cannot wait to see what it can do for my phillipson deluxe dt7/wf8. Thanks for making such a great product, Tom!

You're quite welcome, Eric.

I have the same rod as your Orvis Golden Eagle in same size. One of my favorites!

I bought a Wulff Bamboo Special #3 for using in my bamboo a few weeks ago. This line feels too light. Will try a 406 in the future.

I recently purchased the 4 wgt DT 406 line for my Ijuin Yomogi and love the combination.

Just bought a 406 DT3F for my Orvis Superfine Glass 7'6" 3wt. Really pleased.

Had tried a number of other lines, including Orvis' own WF3F superfine line and was not all that enthused until now (I also have their 4wt and like the matching superfine line).

I recently bought a 406 DT4 and a WF5 from Tom. He was a pleasure to deal with both on the phone and via email. I tested the lines on a few of my go-to rods that I fish a lot and am familiar with their feel and power. The first thing I noticed was that the coating really flowed through the guides exceptionally well. I guess with new lines you would expect that but it was noticeable to me. The next thing I noticed was that the WF5 loaded the rod more than I expected. So I did a weight comparison to my Rio Golds which I fish often and are recognized as being a half line weight heavy. I used a scale that weighs to .1gram (about 1.5 grains). To my surprise, the 406 WF5 weighed about 5 grains more than the WF5 Rio Gold. I then did a similar comparison with the 406 DT4 and a Rio Gold and found it to be a few grains less than a Rio Gold. A friend brought over his 406 WF6 and we found it to be 5 grains less than a RG WF6. I ended up returning the 406 WF5 because I needed a lighter 5wt line for a couple of my rods that overload with a Rio Gold. I talked to Tom about it and don't really know why it weighed as much as it did. I could have just been an outlier. Anyway, I appreciated Tom's understanding and look forward to trying the lines out on water once it thaws out around here.
