I'm looking for a Heddon spinning reel to pair with a Heddon 7' medium light action spinning rod. The rod is from the early fifties. I have been using it with a Mitchell 300 which works great and I would like to know which Heddon reel would be a good replacement with about the same weight.
Thanks
Vern

my first tackle as an adolescent was a Heddon 215 - I wouldn't recommend any of the models with the hammer-bail close.
The step up is the 230 or 233. There's also a couple of 205 on ebay that might be a good rebuild project.
Personally, I would dodge Heddon altogether, and go for a Penn 714 (larger) or 716 (smaller), or an Abu/Zebco Cardinal in the correct size.

An often overlooked and wonderful reel is the Luxor A No 1 from France

Thanks Bulldog. But really looking for a Heddon that would be about the same weight as my Mitchell. I don't really plan to use it much and thought it would be kinda cool to match the rod with a Heddon. If I don't get a Heddon I will continue to use the Mitchell. I really do like that reel.
Thanks
Vern
