Hi all I have been enjoying some ultra light spin fishing . Was thinking of getting a cane and silk 4'10" 2/3 blank to build a ultra light spinning rod . Looking to build a rod for 2 # nanofil and 1/64 and under jig heads . down to 1/100 or 1/200 with small float . Do you all think it will work ???? thanks

Never had my hands on that blank but it sounds like it would do exactly what your after. I've considered doing the same thing on one of those Batson 2wt 4pc rods.

I'd be very interested to hear how you project comes along should you decide to move forward with it!

Watching, consider having enough backbone in the rod to set the hook, or you will need to hone your hooks razor sharp.

Well, it might indeed, but you cannot strip set a spinning rod, if you incur problems, you might need to learn the "sweep strike".
I have a flimsy expensive Japanese spin rod, recently acquired that I would rate as a 2wt flyrod. I have hooked only a handful of small, 6 to 8 inch bass on it so far, and have yet to sink the hook passed the barb on any of them, and have only brought two to hand. Just my .02 YMMV
Don't get me wrong, I think this is a wonderful idea, just sharing problems I have faced. I am sure the rod you build will be super fun.

if you are using nanofil you will have no problem setting the hook.just make sure you put the proper guides on.i use a similar rod for crappie fishing around deep docks brush etc.i use 6lb nano and that is tiny line.the 2 is nearly invisible.i hooked a 15lb carp in the tail last year and had him on for 20 minutes or so.he broke off in some deep trees.the line didn't break tho,the hook did.

I have ordered Mud - Hole MHX 4'6" and 5'6" . they are rated for 1/64 and that is the lightest I can find . They are fiberglass . Has any one built on these blanks ????

RingFly, I use to use a 6' lammy blank and cut a foot and a half off the butt and it worked well with 32ounce and if I went smaller I would use a small split shot but this was back in the early 80's and it was a lot of fun for trout ,no problem setting the hook.I don't spin fish anymore but let us know how it works out......aurelio
