Drove to a tackle gathering determined not to purchase another fly rod unless I sold or traded one of the rods I brought along. Saw some interesting vintage tackle including quite a few fiberglass rods, one of which was square fiberglass fly rod. Also noticed a very nice fly rod by Andy Manchester. Passed them all up until I came across the rod shown below. Rods I had for sale didn't move, but hey the rule was no new fly rods.

One section spin or perhaps fly spin rod all original and 4' 7" long. Dual slide rings. Feels extra ultralight.

That is a beautiful spinning rod. Can you describe it's action?

Have yet to cast or fish this rod yet but it is a true ultra light spinning rod with a great flex. For an early 1960's rod the condition is great. Hope to follow up with a more specific report in a few weeks.

Grouse, that is one heck of a nice looking rod.
I used to live in Costa Mesa many moons ago.
That rod was most likely made at the SilaFlex facility on Placentia St.

Superb Score! Very nice looking. I would have used the exact same rationalization as it is Not a fly rod.

Hersh, that Browning era rod looks sweet.
I really dig the color scheme used on the Browning era SilaFlex rods.

was able to parlay some of what i made on them into a couple nice fly rods.last year i bought a browning silaflex 7.5 6wt .same looks as the ultra light.have a browning arms reel that looks good on it.those rods i sold were just too nice to fish with ,flawless, mint with paper work . i have lots of spinning rods that i seem to use less and less .my upcoming crappie trip to southern illinois i plan on using a fly rod as much as possible .

Thought adding the images of the original post might be of some interest. Still disappointed in the evil of photo bucket. Fish on.

Photobucket is stupid, not evil, and the free browser ad-ons out there let us see your original photos just fine, along with every other photobucket photo that didn't get deleted by its owner. Evil is in how one reacts to it. Can't hurt photobucket by deleting your free account. They're still giving you free bandwidth and database if you don't delete your free account. You won't even see their pop-ups if you add free ABP to Chrome browser.
It is a pretty rod, and would be a joy with a Mitchell 408 or 310 (even better, Penn 722 or 720Z)
