I'm looking for real life comparisons between the two. There have been a few threads on the CGRs in recent weeks. But I'm curious (primarily to those who have both or have fished both) as to just how different they are?

Cheers!

How about Berkley Specialist 8' 7/8-wt S-glass and an educated guess?
Also Berkley Classic in your configuration

The Berkley should be faster tip, probably both have comparable mids, and the CGR has a heavier butt - it takes the 8-wt to load into the butt.

However, you have a great rod there, and may only gain the ability for close fishing with larger flies using the CGR.

Thanks for your input. I already own the PM and love it...considering a CGR, but like 10wts, I need another 6/7/8 like I need a hole in my head...

I had the US made 7'6" PM and really enjoyed it. Not as deep flexing as the CGR, and probably was a lighter rod. The CGR kinda casts itself with an 8wt, I don't recall that same sensation with the PM. But all this is soooo subjective.

It's possible the PM is still around here somewhere, can't recall what I did with it.....if I find it I will string it and the CGR up .

I cannot imagine a cgr being a better rod than my 7'6" Curt Gowdy.

Jeff, I'd say they're apples and oranges. The para/metric is made to cast distance, the CGR to fish close.

Great summation.

which I happen to disagree strongly - differences are measurable:
