I just fished the new Scott F series glass in a 4 weight and found it to be significantly smoother than the previous F2's were. It's a totally different feeling rod, more power without the bouncy tip. The action feels slower, yet somehow much more smooth through the entire blank. Looking forward to trying this under a variety of conditions to see how it handles over time. So far, its a great feeling rod! Also found it to be super accurate under 40 feet.

Expensive - yes. But time doing what I love is priceless and I don't gamble, drink (much) and my wife doesn't let me chase women.

Welcome, jbflyfishing, and thank you for the review. I agree, doing what you love is priceless, and great gear is worth the price.

I have an F2 602 and like it better with a triangle 3 over a 2 line, BUT I like my Ijuin 663 a lot more. I cant imagine a finer small/short 2 or 3wt!

The lack of reviews floating around for this is making me think they're not much different than the F2s.

Actually, gotta say.... seems like some of the new graphite options are a bit more interesting these days, though for the most part still too fast. I would love to cast an 864 Winston Pure rod. From what I hear it's something pretty special. I was actually out on my local with a Winston 865 IM6 yesterday, nymphing, and had a blast.

I always wonder if it isn't the price that tag that just holds people back on this rod in general. If they were cheaper they would sell more rods...
thus people would see them on stream more and word of mouth would spread this like crazy.
So perhaps keeping this such a secret is a total built in plan of the maker all along.

(I wonder how thats working out for them. Would love to see sales figures per year the last 10 years of the F series of rods - both of them)

For me, $700 is a psychological barrier. My first car was $700. :lol

Scott rods don't seem to be a prevalent as some other brands. Hard to say why that is but I'd be curious too how the sales numbers look.
The high end rod manufacturers ( Winston, Sage, Scott, G-Loomis etc) seem to do well and anglers will pay for something they like. Scott is a smaller company so maybe they're scaling things more towards a dedicated fan base than trying to compete with the mass markets. They also are dedicated to brick and mortar fly shops as a dealer model so its tough to say how that will play out in coming years as fly shops continue to die across the country.

Anglers are a funny bunch too - People will spend thousands on new gear and not take a casting lesson for 45 bucks...A lesson that would have helped them more than the new gear.

...I will say my F series rod is amazing compared to the previous F2 version ( which I personally didn't care for much)
It tracks much better, has more power and is still moderate in action and smooth.

NO! No! no! Once you learn to cast you can get by and even enjoy pretty much any stick. That's a scary thought. Logic might then dictate you keep a handful of old fenwicks and sell off the rest of the collection.

Of course you can look at the bright side of that - rather than eternally looking for the perfect rod you can just relax and enjoy all the different flavours.

this has been a pretty empty thread.....LOL. Id love to know more about these as they are one of the more attractive glass rods Scott ever made IMHO. i literally read through 5 pages and got very little actual info on one of these that someone has handled. a lot of talk about graphite though... ALOT. somebody needs to start a graphite forum. Im also confused why everyone always says Scott is a small company....WHO are the big boys??? I've lived and fished in the rockies for decades and EVERYONE seems to own a Scott rod or several. its the most popular brand out here as far as big name rods. Maybe the rockies are not the capitol of american fly fishing like I thought....is there just a massive market I'm missing buying G loomis fresh water rods?

I have the F Series 7’2” 4 weight and all I can say is that you owe it to yourself to try out at least one rod from this series. The 4 weight is a surprisingly versatile rod in addition to the expected dry fly accuracy. Small streamers and nymph rigs are a breeze to cast with a SA Amplitude Trout WF4F.

As others have mentioned, the stability and recovery of this rod are remarkable. You can watch the rod snap back into place by just wiggling it. I’ve never seen so little bounciness before on an E glass rod.

The only way I’d ever give it up is to swap for another F Series, particularly the 6’6” or 5’8” 3 weight. After enjoying the 4, I’m itching to see what the little 3s are like.

Haha I have never disliked an F2! My first glass rod was an F2 653 which I traded in for the new F Series. I currently own the FS 724 and really enjoy it, but miss the shorter 3 weight configuration.

Aurelio - let me know if you find either of the new Scotts disappointing, particularly the 5pc. I’ll take it off your hands. Roy
