"The local Tailwaters aren’t great". I see you're from Arkansas and fish Crooked Creek, Surely you are not speaking of the White?

Try a Wulff Ambush for larger flies on your 6wt for small mouth. You can even loop on short sink tips for getting flies down in faster water.

I am speaking of the White. Most specifically, the Beaver Tailwaters. I’ve fished the most of other Tailwaters on the White and with great success. I’ve not been a fan of the Beaver.
