What's the best deal you ever got on fishing gear?
My finalists are a new Orvis CFO 123 I found being closed out for $120; a new T&T Paradigm for $250 and a new Abel Xtream 456 (TR2) at $130.
What's your best find/deal(s) ever?

When gander mt. was going out of business this summer I picked up a St. Criox imperial 7'6 4wt for like $50 bucks. Awesome rod if you like really, really fast graphite. Also first post, hello from Charlotte NC.

Probably the CGR reel that I just ordered from Cabela's for $10. Also, about two years ago, thanks to an alert from someone on this board, I picked up a Hardy St. George, one of the Heritage models, from a UK shop that was closing them out at something like 70% off.

Several years back I picked up an new unfished FF755 on Craigslist for $35.00. I think that is my best deal so far.

Inverted Script CFO in very good condition for $200.
CFO V with 3 spare spools for $175.
Sage SP 586 and Sage 3200 reel both brand new for $225.
Sage 505L mint for $175.

With that said I usually use things and don't sell and when I do sell I take a loss. I did sell the Sage 3200 reel for $275, so that might be the only one I didn't take a loss on.

Bought a Charlton 8450 with 7/8 spool years ago from Just Reels for $600.00. NIB with paperwork and thought my wife would kill me. That was the most I had spent on a fly reel up to that date. Now they're going for $1400.00 on up.

Best reel I've ever owned hands down.

Tom

At the Somerset NJ fly fishing show a few years ago I bought a Phillipson Powr Pakt bamboo rod from Hoagy Carmichael for $35. I think it was an 8 footer and all pieces of equal length, good condition.
A number of years ago Duff and I bought 2 Claudios and 2 Peaks from Mike Clark for about $900. That's back when one Peak glass rod was selling for about that amount or more. I took a stab in the dark, looked up the name and address on the Peak tube, and the original owner had six more Peaks we bought from him. Wow! Those were the days of some fantastic deals!

A boat load of Winston DL4's for 30% off list, right when they discontinued them. I also snagged a few Winston Retros for 40% off and an 8'6" 3wt WT when they were discontinued.

For me my best deals recently have been.....
Last year I bought a TFO Lefty Kreh Pro Special 5wt from Cabela's for $99. with free shipping and then took another $10. off in reward points.
On ebay this year I was able to snag an "unknown brand" bamboo fly rod for $30. Turned out to be a beautifully restored Clark and Horrocks from about 1900, in its original rod tube. Then, for about $10. I picked up a very early, hand made fly reel of "unknown origin", after doing tons of research and sending out lots of pix and emails the best guess is that it was an early working prototype of the Pflueger Captain.

Many years ago I was at an auction and they threw three rod tubes and an old home movie screen on the table and I bought the whole batch for $23. There was an excellent Orvis Battenkill Bamboo rod in one of the tubes. On the sad side it only came with one tip.

I bought an Orvis vest full of fly boxes that were full. It also had nippers, a knife, magnifiers etc. At a buck per fly everything added up to $700. Got it all for 25 bucks at Goodwill.

Bought a Radian with a Lamson Reel and GPX line on it on Ebay for $500. Broke them up, relisted them and sold the rod for $550-$600 alone.

I also just bought a near mint IM6 Loomis blank for $250. Tube, sock, everything original and perfect.

Best was one that I was too broke to jump on at the time. I had a Ross San Miguel #2 stolen years ago, gift from a friend with my name engraved on it. Been looking for one ever since...found one on Craig’s list for $150..dead broke at the time. Now when you find one they are $450+

My best deal was when I won my Barclay 704 for $25 worth of raffle tickets. Love that rod!

My best score on eBay was the time I bought a lot of four reels for $100. Three were salt water models, including a left-handed Penn Senator 113H, but the real prize was a beautiful older Pflueger Medalist 1494 with the round line guard, metal spool latch cover, and tapered spindles etc. As I already had an identical Medalist, I sold all four reels individually for almost three times I much as I had paid for the lot.
