Got one from Chris and fished it hard the last 2 days on small to med. size streams.the fist day I used a dt4 and today I used a rio gold 3.The rod roll casted ,bow and arrow, mended great. The rod is very accurate using a dry only, when I added a dropper I had to wait on my back cast a little. My client Amy today missed 3 for every one she brought to hand with a cgr 4 wt. but when she used the Barclay rod she landed the first 3,nothing wrong with the cgr just a little softer upper section.I really like the rod now I need to see if it will handle a 20 incher.........aurelio

Thanks for the report Aurelio ! You are likely going to have to go into the Rio Grande Gorge to find a 20 incher ... look forward to the future report :)

Aurelio, I look forward to hearing more about your thoughts on it! I love mine, but I don't often see such technical water as yourself. Maybe one day I'll make it out to one of your get togethers!

I just got back from a short guide job because the fishing sucked to much rain last night so it was on the house.I let my client Maggie fish the 70P after she slowed down she was casting great.I wanted to see if the rod could handle some weight,we came to a nice pool and I loaded it up with one split shot a weighted girdle bug and a San Jaun worm fishing across and down and while stripping it back she hooked and landed a nice 17 cutbow.I was surprised how nice it handled the weight without being clunky and also handles a lot of line with ease, the more I take it out the more I like it and finding it to be extremely versatile........aurelio

Someone needs to educate me about the action of this rod and why it feels different than my other rods and it is truly addictive. Is this really a parabolic action if so I likes it!!!!....forum member Flyfishdoc says he absolutely likes it and will be here here 3 days.......aurelio

My understanding is that it's semi-parabolic. A little more progressive than the 75p by a hair. I love my 70p and I agree that it's very accurate with dries and roll casts superbly with a 406DT.

love the 70p! I have the 64p as well but I always seem to reach for the 70p...it truly is addictive. I have fished it for trout, sunfish, bass etc and have you used all methods from dries to small streamers. it performs with them all and I tend to like it with a 406 wf4.

It is more versatile than the 64p for sure although the 64p would be fun on the ponil were the casts are close.I have shorter rods which I like better for small streams but I thought I would never say this but if I only had one rod to use I could make the 70p work for me.......aurelio
Plus he does beautiful builds
Thank You Chris

I spoke with Chris Monday afternoon and he was going to start turning the grip on my 75p yesterday - I can't wait!

modad2010, you will love that rod in my opinion. I do and have only lawn cast it once with my right arm in a sling after rotator cuff work done - only wrist/lower arm cast it a few times but it is really sweet and powerful. Please don't tell my doc or pt guy. I used a 406 DT4 and a WF5 Barrio Smallstream - handled them both really well at 30-35 feet.

Another 70p fan checking in. My favorite rod, just a smooth, versatile rods for the Shenandoah National Park streams I frequent along with similar streams in southwest Virginia. And an excellent terrestrial rod for the valley spring creeks. Mine was hand-delivered by Chris and Stella, which makes it even more special. Side note: I've found the 406 DT3 to be the perfect match for Chris's 723; a very accurate combo for any distance you would choose a 3-weight for.

Anything Chris makes is awesome , while I love my 70p I find myself reaching for my 64p more often. Then there is the 70ls !

I think we should have a 70p Conclave. Get all owners together... maybe at Chris's house and fish NC streams for a weekend!

Let the record show Jhuskey has seconded JoeFridays motion. All in favor say "Aye". All opposed, "nay."

Wow guys, :eek I didn't realize this thread was going until a few days ago. Thanks so much and I am absolutely thrilled that y'all like these fun little rods so much! I have to say that it's possibly my favorite model I make - it just fits so much of my fishing. Though I have to be careful not to play favorites amongst the kids, uh, I mean rods.

Hmmm, maybe early October??? What y'all think??
