Anyone familiar with WW Grigg fiberglass rods? If so, any info/opinions appreciated. These are buttescotch blanks, 2pc and priced in the mid $60's. Their web site descrlibes them as medium action. I am curious and at that price I 'm thinking of taking a chance on a 4wgt.

Use the search function in the upper right corner to look for griggs and you will get >100 hits.

The Griggs rods are butt over tip construction. When I spoke with the company owner he said there was "some" graphite in the tip section. That is good design because of the sudden decrease in rod diameter due to the butt over tip.

I know some forum members enjoy these rods.

I dug out this thread because I recently picked up the 8'6" 5/6. I have been fishing it with a Barrio DT 6 line and found the rod much more enjoyable than I had anticipated. It also looks great, with its bamboo look and the red wraps. It is a bit on the faster side, but still obviously fiberglass.

I emailed the company inquiring about the Heritage series, and received a reply from the company owner's wife. Evidently, the owner had passed away a couple years back from leukemia. Since then, she has basically closed everything down. She continues to have a bit of inventory that has been passed on to online sales. The Heritage series rod is currently available in the 8', 8'6", and 9' lengths.

I owned that very rod - I passed it along to my cousin when he took up fly fishing. Certainly a 6 weight in my book. I fished it with the 57' Air Cel WF6 and the full length Air Cel DT5 lines. My cousin uses a Cabelas Prestige 6 weight WF line now.

My absolute favorite graphite ever was also a WWGrigg - their 8' 2 piece IM6 4 weight is still what I measure all trout rods against. I broke mine 7 years ago and still have not run across another.

Dredging up this old thread; I picked up one of these Heritage Series glass rods today at the local antique mall. 2-piece 8'6" 5/6, new with plastic still on the cork, plus one of their Argus reels and a Cortland 333 WF6F, both also new. $45 out the door. Interested in any additional info/opinions/experience etc. with the rod. The reel and line may go up for sale as I have a few orphaned reels already lined lying around; then again, maybe not.

My thought process was: If you have experience with these rods you know what they look like. And if you don't, well... ;)

However, I will try to post a pic tonight.

A few quick and not-so-good cell phone shots...

Great deal! The Heritage is a fun 6 weight. As a caution, the stripping guide for my rod slipped off during a cast. I popped it back in and recemented it in place with Hard as Hull. No problems since.

Blooded it today on bluegills; I hung my old Browning Diana reel with WF5 on it and it seemed to do well with that line. I had a WF6 reel with me also but it did so well with the 5 I never got around to trying it. Pretty early here; I had quite a few nibbles and bounces but not many takers. Still a beautiful morning to be out.
