What does it mean when cane people say a rod is 3/2 or 2/2?

three piece rod with 2 tips or two piece rod with 2 tips. The same descriptors could be used for 'glass rods but most would read 2/1 or 3/1.

Gorgeous. Then I guess I have a 2/1 Hardy in the post. Though when I've looked it up on the other forum, apparently it's not to "American tastes" whatever that means.

close to a rule, the Brits really like their longer para tapers, and the rod is expected to have a fast tip and deflection increase as you move toward the butt.
A rod like this will cast to the end of the operator's skill.
The TLS is the exact opposite, super-progressive, with a short very soft (thin) tip, fast mid and the taper ends dead with a flared butt.
This rod will accurately cast the leader alone, feels like it casts itself out to 50' (uncanny, even), and and won't cast a foot farther.
You gain total tippet protection and big-fish-turning power.

I exclusively use dries on a slow small stream, glassy pools and 7 inch brown trout. I've never cast a para before but it can't be a whole disadvantage for dry fly fishing, and I can always underline it if I want greater progressive action right.

think I'm going to plead the 5th.
I don't think there's a way to make it more progressive - may want to over-line it - but my buddy Jimbo takes his Floyd Burkett 5-wt streamer rocket para to Montana every summer and fishes only dries with it.

Don't want to overthink it when it hasn't even arrived yet, just got to fish it and see.

I'm sure it is a nice rod - don't think twice about the "American tastes" dribble.

Yes exactly, I'm not even American either.

I arranged for it to be delivered to a local shop as I work full time which always seems to add another two days onto delivery times.

Is it just me that thinks the whippings look Christmasy? Bit clashy colours to be honest but I wouldn't call the rod ugly. The seller sent it with a Viscount mk II with a Cortland sylk line on, tried that first which was very delicate but didn't really load the rod. Next tried my 5 dt peach which felt much better but the lrh lightweight foot barely fits under the band on the reel seat. Looking forward to fishing it Saturday...

good-looking rod - thanks for posting photos

I had a Montague Flash that used the same color combo, only age-faded.

Is the cracking on the varnish at the guides a worry?

I would give it a light coat of tung oil to soften the varnish

I kinda like the looks. Well except the grip, that style grip does fit me well. Thanks for posting.

I have big but slender hands like I should be good at the piano, it's my favourite grip.

Nice rod, let it tell you how it wants to be fished. English tapers may differ from American, but not that much. That color scheme will grow on you!

That little rod will definitely be a para, very light in hand, and very delicate butt section.
Would imagine a joy to fish.

My local woodshop only had boiled linseed so I've ordered pure tung oil online. Now do I chance it and fish it tomorrow before coating? Read that it takes couple days to dry.

Pinch the bands rather than force-slide them in place. Once pinched to bulge the recess for the foot, they will slide on slightly easier. Gradually, the cork will take a slight imprint of the foot. The resilient cork will hold the reel even better. Some people don't like the look of a rod on display with no reel mounted, with "wear" or "marks" on the cork, but they aren't visible when the reel is mounted. Like a cork footbed in a fine boot, the cork conforms to the foot. Gouges on the upper side of cork seat, though, are unsightly and are far less likely to occur if you pinch the bands rather than force-slide them.

The imprint of the reel foot is a mark of good use of a well matched set-up. That should be one; thanks for showing.
