I am probably going to buy a Burkheimer rod. For an all around trout rod, do members prefer 8’3” 4wt. or 9’ 5wt.? I like the Vintage Models. Other preferences ?

Is CFB making fiberglass again? I was not aware. I'm going to have to look into this.

He's referring to graphite. I have no experience with these rods.

Well that would depend on the type of water you fish.

I fish medium sized streams in the Sierras.

Personally, for the prices of Burkheimer Rods, I would get one from Chris Barclay and save yourself some money. I threw his 6’8” 3wt and it would be perfect for small Sierra streams. It’s my next rod. Roy

The Tom Morgan fiberglass rods are burkheimers built on Tom’s tapers. Those are definitely worth consideration; buy one of those blanks to build out or have a builder build one if you are interested in burkheimer glass.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. I just like the look of the cosmetics on the factory Burkheimer rods.

Ditto. But I would want one made/built by the Morgans.

Since you are currently only inquiring about 4 and 5 weight line options, my advice would be to not complicate your selection by throwing in a 3 weight Rod option. Being very familiar with the streams that you will be fishing, I vote for a 4 weight line rod.

Good Luck, Bob
