Hoping someone can help me identify what this might be. 8' 2pc. 5-6wt. I fish it with a 6DT. The only idenitfying mark on it is the stamp which reads "Phillipson World's Finest Premium Rod Blank". There is an inscription on it "Made forJoe Grant by Oral Dudie(?) Dec. 1974.

Thanks Ron. Was hoping you'd jump in. Wasn't even really sure it was a legit Phillipson as I know nothing about them. It is a pleasure to fish. Actually has been a great warmwater rod for me. Bass are exceptionally fun.

Phillipson sold blanks and kits, same blank as used in their factory rods of the time. Yours is a hobby or small-shop build on a Phillipson blank, a darn good blank, so if the build is good, you have a darn good rod. I don't know if Phillipson supplied the somewhat unusual guides they used at the time with the kits, but best I can see in the picture, yours has them. That suggests that the rod was built from a kit with instructions and including components that replicate the factory rod. Can't go wrong with that.

Looks to be very similar in appearance to a Beans Double L that I have. Most of the glass ferruled Phillipson are nice rods to fish.

Across the board, Phillipson rods have a wonderful progressive taper.
While most of the 8' rods are 7-wt, if you can find the 5- and 6-wt models, they really shine and are quite possibly the best of the bunch.
But back to that wonderful progressive taper, Phillipson rods are the only rods that roll cast with aplomb down to 6' length. E-glass is the only material that will accomplish this, and Bill Phillipson took advantage of its intrinsic properties, more so than any other glass rod maker, IMO. (Admit I also have a rare Lami 605 that is a close contender.)

+1. My 7-footer roll- and one-hand Spey casts so effortlessly that I'll fish for long periods and not bother to cast in the usual way. I just draw back and point it somewhere else.
