Hi All,

Found this nice rod the other day and thought I would share. It casts nice with a 5wt.

that is a beauty! it looks hardly fished, if at all. is that a Bakelite reel seat? what type & brand of 5wt did you try? i bet it will cast a nice 6wt DT too. good get. thanks for posting --- the pics are great.

Thanks guys, I look forward to fishing it.

picketpin I think the reelseat is plastic or bakealite, I am guessing plastic. The first reel I grabbed had Rio Gold DT5 and it worked pretty well. I think I will try a 4wt and 6wt as well.

the rio gold is a "heavy" line -- the 5 is probably more like a 6 with 25'-30' outside the tip -- it actually might be a perfect line for the rod.

great photo set.
I've owned that rod in 7-1/2', and it was a super-progressive dry fly taper, and definitely and 5-wt.
I think yours would make a great tailwater trout rod.

Sweet rod! I have one too, but in a 7' version. Casts like a dream... Can't imagine ever getting rid of it, although my brother keeps trying to get it from me... Pics:

You have lucked into a gorgeous rod. Those early Heddon's are wonderful slow rods. I would guess a 6wt will really be a joy and a 7 might even be nice. I used to try and turn all my vintage rods into 5/6wt's and while they will cast a line weight or two down, when you get the a bit heavier line on them and are willing to spend a bit of time to slow your casting stroke down, these rods come alive.
