I went to our local antiques fair today, and found this 1954 Shakespeare WondOrod in the emerald green coloration. Not the drop-dead gorgeous shimmering emerald green like Boondockz, Boathouse Rats, and Tooty's, but a bit on the darker side, even in the sunshine. But it came with its original bag and partially labelled tube so how could I resist?

Seven foot nine inches of hollow wonderfulness!

The others I've seen have the snap-lock seat, but this one is a screw down-locker that is stamped "No. 1470 Model FGD" and is anodized dark green, so it must be original to the rod.

That is great! Seems like the best I can do on one of those kind of outings is an old Zebco reel that's all frozen up.

Welcome welcome. Green is a beautiful color no matter the shade. The greens of Ireland, Normandy, the Jersey Highlands...who's to say which is prettiest?

Seven feet, nine inches is a very utilitarian length, I think. Please share your casting/line-handling experiences with us when you can.

It really does cast a WF6 well. Noticeably stiffer in the butt with a powerful tip. Punches out a nice tight loop with little effort, but still puts a wiggle-waggle in the line.
I like it.

I've got one 7'9" Wonderod that has a broom stick for a butt and all the flex is in the last 2ft of the rod.
Not always fun to cast, it takes a 7wt.

And I have another 7'9" Wonderod that is smooth and sweet w a 6wt.

On topic, I have a green 8'5" rod, a cannon w a 9wt, again, super stiff in the butt.

Wonderods. Like a box of candies, you never know what you are gonna get.

That's a sweet find! And a nice solid looking reel seat to boot! Congrats!

I need to do more fleamarkets.
