Greetings everyone!

I just found this forum, and I'm enjoying reading the posts. I thought I'd share some of my old fiberglass.

Beautiful.
"Action Taper" where does that fit into their "tapers". I have never been able to make sense of it all, tho I recall seeing a chart or description from Shakespeare somewhere.

Not a fly rod, but a great little Wonderod for panfish.

Beautiful transparent green! First bait rod I've seen in that color. Thanks for sharing!

It's not one I see very often, for sure. It almost glows in daylight.

I love the green Wonderods even if they are not fly rods. What model is that last green fly rod pictured?

I thought so and it looks to be a beauty! A while back "gaddis" found that model listed in a 1956 Shakespeare catalog. The color is referred to as "Nile Green" and yours was made in June 1956.

I have one also but a bit newer than yours. Mine was made April 1957.

Do you fish that rod?

Russ

Just curious if that is a one piece blade or does it have a ferrule? For decades the Shakespeare bamboo rod model coding was determined by the number of sections. For example, the 1100 series were one piece, the 1200 series where two piece, and the 1300 series were three piece. This carried on into the Wonderod era with the 1190 bait casting, 1290 two-piece fly rod, and the 1390 three-piece fly rod. Then for some reason they designated the WondOrod as a 1400 series (even though it was two-piece). So if your 1240 is one-piece, this would be another exception to the rule.

My 1240 Nile Green is a two piece.

I have fished it. I'm not sure what line weight is supposed to be used, but it does well with WF5F.

I thought we were talking about the bait casting rod? What is the model number on that?

Oh I see now. The question asked for the model number of the last green FLYROD pictured, not last green rod pictured. I was really scratching my head when the answer came back 1240.
The bait rod must be an 1140?

It is a Model 1171L and it also has the letters FCC if I'm reading it right. And it is one piece. Is there a page of reference for these like there is for fly rods?

I'm guessing the date code means it was made in 1958.

Its almost fiber optic-like. It looks like a light tube when outside.

Just a Google of Shakespeare Rod Models brings up a PDF of all Shakespeare rods. It says yours is the "Super-Special" bait caster from 1952. It really is super special!

Nice. Thanks! It's older than I am. By a little. :)

It is a sweet little rod. I have used it with the Johnson reel in the photo with great results. I also have a new old stock Zebco 404 that really is great on it. A flick of the wrist and it tosses a lure a long way. After fly rods, these little spincast setups are my favorite. I've caught zillions of panfish and quite a few trout on them over the years. I once had a 4 pound rainbow run me up and down the shore for about half an hour, for fear I'd run out of line. I think my dad would still be laughing if he were alive.

The '53 catalog says the Sea Green Super-Specisl was available in 3-1/2', 4-1/2', 5'2", and 5-1/2'.
