I had this rod built by Mike Callery (troutstix.com) some years ago. The website is no longer active. Anybody remember him? Anyway from the warranty card I assume the rod blank is from 2003. Back then I didn't know there was E glass and S glass, I just wanted a fiberglass rod for the small streams I fished. Mike labeled the rod as S glass, is it really? It seems to be a regular honey E glass Lami. Here are some pics.

I think that is an e-glass blank. I have 843-3 blank that I bought in 2007 or 2008 just before they stopped making them and they were advertised as e-glass.

You don't show the spigots clearly, but they were made of the same material and taper as the blank, only unfinished. And you had to plug the ends of the spigots with epoxy or caulk.

If your rod is a sleeve ferrule then you don't have the same blank.

Sure doesn't look like it has a sleeve ferrule.
And if it's spigotted, you'd think the spigots would be the same length or at least the one on the butt would be longer than one on the mid-section rather than the converse.

Thanks for the replies. They are spigots. The butt and mid are the same length, the tip just a tad longer due to the tiptop. Here's a couple pics of the ferrules if that helps.

Yes, that looks right, I believe that is your standard e-glass honey Lami blank. You have a great rod there, I don't know why Lamiglas discontinued their 3 piece blanks.

Took a long time to get an answer :D

The part number is a standard 84" 3wt 3 piece blank. The FL's (I am assuming for Fly) are the traditional Eglass blanks. I can't remember the sglass model number.

I really like the rod. I wonder why Mike thought it was S-glass. I wish I had gotten a shorter one too as sometimes even the 7 footer is too long for some of the little streams I fish.

I just received my Mudhole catalog. They are still selling FL series blanks in 2 piece configurations. At least in 6'6", 7', 7'6", and 8' varieties. You just need to get a 6'6" model built up (or build one yourself).

Tide and time. . .
I currently have a finished 6-6 up on my website, and it struck me as even softer (slower) than the 7-0. You should see if someone near you will let you test cast one first.

Carlz, I see that Mudhole has the blanks, the msrp prices are up $30+ from last year I think.

Nice to know they are still making blanks, but I don't care for tip over butt ferrules. I like three piece rods and spigots. Anyway I satisfied my need for a shorter rod by getting a Scott F2 653/3 last summer. Great rod.

If everyone on the forum would stop buying fiberglass rods, the prices might go back down :)

So Mudhole wants $30-$34 more than MSRP? Lamiglas list is still 83-99 bucks. No thank you. :|

No, Mudhole is very good to deal with. I am sure their prices reflect the current msrp for the blanks they have in stock.

Once you try, or go back to glass there is no turning back!

John, your stick there looks nice.

But, Lamiglas. . . "honey"? I've eaten gallons of honey in my day, and it's always some shade of translucent-amber/brown/whisky, never opaque yellow.

I love that rod. I, too, wish that Lami was making multi-piece blanks. I am presently redoing a 7'9" Lami 3pc 4wt and have done a Lami 3wt 2pc for my grandson. I also have a Lami 3pc 5wt 8ft waiting to be done. Since I live only a couple of hours from the Lami factory, I stop by there on occasion on my way to Oregon. I have picked up several "obsolete" blanks from them and built on them. Usually, they are 8ft lengths and cut them down. As I understand it, you can make an order through Anglers Workshop in Woodland, Wa (right next door to Lami) and order a FL904 blank as they still use that blank for spinning rods. Then you can cut it down as you wish. I tried it but took so long I cancelled the order. Talk to Dave at Anglers. Roy
