Tiffany and I took a vacation to Connecticut to see my family. None of them have met our 10 month old boy yet so we made the 14hr drive north to see everyone.

We had a great time. While we were there I managed to get skunked for trout on the Farmington river. Thanks to everyone who helped in my thread asking for advice. I did drop by up country sport fishing in New Hartford and they were very nice and helpful. Good selection of glass rods too. Definitely check them out.

Anyways, while trout fishing I managed to catch an eel on a woolly booger and the world's smallest smallmouth on a nymph. We also traveled to Niantic for an evening to visit one of my aunt and uncles. The girls and the baby went out to dinner and my uncle and I took the skiff out for some stripers.

Five to hand between 17 and 22 inches all on graphite or spinning (sorry). The fish were wanting 6 inch lead eye shad patterns fished deep and slow with an erratic retrieve. A bit more than my CGR 7/8 could throw so carbon stick to the rescue.

When we got home I had a little work to do on my boat so wanted to take it out for a test run. Tiffany and Kenneth came with me to the river and she finally got to put her fly casting practice to the test landing a few sunfish on a foam spider with a 4wt prime.

I brought my FF837 to fish wooly boogers on a sink tip and bass bugs on a floating line but was unable to draw any bass strikes. Caught a few sunfish myself and drank a beer. We had a great sunset on the way back to the launch.

All in all a great vacation with the family!

I don’t know, I’m pretty sure I’ve caught smaller smallmouth ;)

That looks great. Love that skiff! That bass looks huge compared to some of the ones I've caught...

It is a fun little boat. The hull is a 1965 Sears aluminum V. It has had the bow cap, storage, decking, and seats added. Powered by a 1960 evinrude 18hp. I would really like to find an older 35 or 40 hp for it, the 18 is fine on the river but on some of the bigger lakes I fish more power would be nice.

Looks like a fun trip. I'd love to chase stripers soon. Those sunsets, incredible!

Can’t forget the beer. Looks like you had a nice trip and hopefully you have a new fishing partner with your wife.
One of the things on my bucket list is to try fly fishing in saltwater. I bet those those striped bass had to be fun.
