my Browning Silaflex. It's been quite a while since I fished it; I'd forgotten what a sweet casting rod it is! It's an 8' 6/7; I had a WF7F on it today. I really didn't need a seven for the small bass and the few bluegills I landed, but a fun day nonetheless...

Nice, I really enjoy watching a bobber get pulled under a nice bluegill. That’s the beauty of glass even 6/7 wt. is still fun on small to medium size fish!

Browning Silaflex are defiantly sweet rods---I have a 7 1/2'.
What H-I Mohawk is that---again I have several 7 1/2', but mine are 6 wts?

It's a 7-1/2' labeled 1307 1/2. I've used it with a 6 and a 5 and I can't decide. It might be just a bit better with a 6 but seems to handle the 5 OK

I took my old 7 1/2 6 wt Silaflex bluegill fishing the other a day. First time it's been out in years. It thanked me by being such a pleasure to fish with.

I'm generally happier with the heavier line, good on ya for fishing it as a 7wt, just makes em a joy to cast and handle. You can cast just about anything with any given rod, but for me, a line needs to truly load the rod, even on short casts, or it just aint as much fun.

And bluegills are FUN.

The Silaflex 322980 is one of top classic 8’ 7wts. It makes for a terrific Smallmouth rod but is also capable of delivering smaller flies with finesse.

Great. This is where I get to say that, as the 16-gauge shotgun of fly tackle, the seven weight is the most underused in fly fishing: casts like an 8, fishes like a 6. An ideal panfish/bass rod and line weight because of the ability to cast relatively large/bulky flies. And a versatile weight because it can cast a gentle line as well.

The ideal line weight for such rods is often underestimated , because they will cast lighter lines well, and with a "stiffer" more graphite feel. They are usually at their best with the classic 7 with a relaxed, progressive application of power, letting the rod do the work.

Thanks for showing
