I had the good fortune to spend three days floating the Deschutes during the Salmon Fly hatch. It was a great trip, and the bugs and fish cooperated. I had the only glass rod on the trip, my Echo Big Water Glass 9' 6 wt, which was a wonderful rod for the job at hand (thanks Cameron!).

An interesting side note is that the rod is the exact golden-brown color of a horny salmonfly. At times I had 20 of them, humping the heck out of that sexy rod.

Newfy, You could be chumming with a forward cast. Huge bugs you have in the west. Makes Hex flies look normal in size by comparison.

I didn't take many pictures, but here they are storming the rod, as well as a couple of the local Rainbows called "redsides" They were 11"-18", mostly 15", and fight like smallmouth.

I hate it when I reach into my bag and find one crawling around.

Looks there was a salmonfly orgy going on your Echo rod.

It's not chumming. It's hatching the match.
