When you think of December you think Christmas parties, family gatherings, cold weather, short days and limited fishing. After a fun Christmas party last night and one two many beers I woke up early with a groggy start. The forecast was low 60's, no clouds and a recipe to sweat off a few brews. I arrived a after sunrise and rigged the Barclay 64P. I wanted to keep today extra simple. Start with a bead head Utah Killer Bug, then Royal Wullf and lastly a micro streamer. All three produced! Watching dries being hit and seeing brookies turn into streamer carnivores is fantastic. However, when you hook one of the best looking brookies you've brought to hand is even better. Overall an incredible December fishing day.

Nice catches. What do you consider a micro streamer? It looks like you have a small wooly bugger? I have had good success with small wooly buggers (Size 14 and smaller) warm water fishing for Bass and all types of pan fish.

Nice, those fish are beautiful. Amazing to me that you can fish such small streams; must take skill.

I consider a tiny bugger like that a micro streamer. Try those with small water trout.

Good stuff. Fresh air and fishy water - in my experience a magic bullet for all kinds of afflictions! Those look like good size brookies for that water. The micro streamer reminds of an Egg-Sucking Leech.

Thanks for sharing.

That first brookie is quite a trophy for around these parts.

+1! There are some good trout calendars, but they all suffer from not enough brook trout!

Thank you. The 64P is made for these waters.

Thanks! Look up Utah Killer bug, great fly.

I have a good catalog of brookie photos. Maybe something if the people wanted it!

Glad someone else thinks the same! The waters are small here and for this guy to be lurking around. Wont forget him!

This is one of our "honey holes". Always a great time.

Thanks and agree. If you look up micro streamers you will be blown away. Brandon on here introduced me to this new obsession.

Yes, the killer bug and it's variants appear to be a popular tenkara fly, too. The beadhead is an interesting addition. May have to tie a few this winter.

It really is. I have seen some guys wrap theres wire lead as well. I like the head and adding a small amount of UV resin.

X2. Just ordered some Oyster 290, in fact. In addition to the usual crimes, I'm going to try it behind a streamer for fresh run steelhead. Might remind them of shrimp or other saltwater fare they still might be longing for?

Beautiful fish. Good pics. Frank Sawyer had a Killer Bug that I used to use a lot, is yours the same except the bead?

Nice. Look at a few other colors to. Salmon, sand, etc. I have seen shrimp patterns that are close but with a UV resin back/top.

Thank you! Same concept but I personally like to use a large gap, scud type hook. Also I will wrap the outer body with a few wraps of wire to make it look segmented.
