Its been a dry fall here in north Alabama and the streams are flowing pretty slow. The smallmouth have been very skittish and spook easily so I have had to adjust my approach....I downsized my deerhair bugs and with the small water I have been having a blast using my Barclay 704 with sz 8 and 10 hair bugs as well as my standby rod...the 70LS with size 4 and 6 hairbugs. the 70LS still works when the water is this low but the lil 4wt makes any size smallie a fun ride....and for that matter any sunfish that decides to jump on the hook!

as the smallies begin to migrate out of these streams as we get more rainfall, I'm glad to have ended another great smallmouth season on such a fun and memorable not....I've caught bigger this yr but the 4wt smallie is probably my favorite:)

Is that shale? Looks like my old streams back in ohio. From what Ive been hearing, the otters are eating all the sizable bass back there. Which is a shame, I would hit 3-4 pounders everyone I went out..

It may be low, but that’s still good looking water. Great fish, too. Love the color on the smallies.

Jhuskey...yep! Smallmouth flag hat. My buddy Nate Karnes created a whole series of "fish flags".

All I read was the title and I knew this was going to be a post from you Bmbailes, and I knew I would be jealous of the water and fish! Great fish and water as always my friend.
