My wife and I had planned a trip with another couple up to Vail for about a month and a half, around the same time I stumbled across this website and got interested in fishing glass. After a lot of research I contacted Chris Barclay about a rod I could use both down here in Texas and also up on smaller water. I decided on the 75p in his "stout" color. I want to mention that the build process with Chris was nothing short of perfect. The time frame was really tight but Chris was able to get my rod to me the day before we left! I threw a 406 DT 4WT on my Abel Super 4N and the combo balanced very well - right at the front of the cork.

I've been going up to Colorado for countless years fly fishing but this was my first time with a fiberglass rod and also my first time to the Vail Valley area during the summertime. We ended up fishing near the headwaters of the Arkansas River, the Lake Fork, and also Gore Creek around the confluence with the Eagle River. We caught tons of 8"-12" brookies and cutthroat with some 14"-16" browns and a few nice 14"+ rainbows and cuttbows. We took a guided trip on the Arkansas and saw some true monsters... one of which I ended up breaking off due to line negligence - probably a 24"ish cuttbow slab!

After fishing the 75p I can honestly say it's the most fun rod I have... granted it's the only fiberglass (which I am changing) but man was it fun to fish! I was able to really pinpoint my casts to more then enough distance, it was a cinch to roll and mend. I also really enjoyed the tempo of the rod compared to the medium to fast guns I am used to using down on the Gulf Coast. Anyways, here are some pics. Thanks again Chris!

I'd move to Colorado if the Cali yuppies hadn't taken over the place and brought their demented politics with them. Beautiful country!

I also want to add that this rod threw dries wonderfully and also tossed dry droppers with nymphs or double nymphs well also, all on 4x and 5x.

That's my back yard and I love it.

As for the Cali folks? Just stay away from the Denver area and you'll never know they're in Colorado. Nothing but good people around me.
