Just wrapped up an evening trip to a new location my neighbor told me about. A bluegill pond. Lightly fished. Did not know what to expect - figured on stunted fish likely. Boy we were in for a surprise!

We first got into respectable hand sized fish. Then they got a bit larger then Ty hooked into Bessy.

He was fishing my 5wt Prime and using a #14 olive conehead bugger I tied & gave him. At first we thought he hooked a carp the way it ran and dogged.

I caught a bunch of the respectable fish. Streamer fishing for bluegill is a bit of a rarity for me but it was fun throwing size 14 to 10 streamers for these fish.

Got some on topwater too. Nothing huge though.

Not often in Oregon you get bluegill that are easily lipped like a bass

Whoa! I'm going to have to try streamers on gills now. I usually stick to topwater fare or smaller sinking spiders and such. But it makes sense that the larger hooks would keep the dinks off while getting down to the bulls and smarter, older ones.

Looks great, the buggers are very effective on bream. A few years ago my brother in law and I got into them pretty hard. He was throwing a foam spider and I was throwing a black wooly bugger. Water was clear that day and you could watch the big bulls come off the nest and hammer the wooly bugger on the pause between strips.

That one your buddy caught is a chunk!
