I had a chance to sneak away to a spot ~10 minutes away from my house. The dam is half ugly and half pretty. This section holds a huge mix of warm water fish. A fun spot to hit after work to ease the mind. I have been trying to target the carp here for weeks but have had zero success with two leader breaks.

I packed the Barclay 8wt and CRG 4/5 before work and headed out after work. This outing I was focusing on bass. I tied a few mouse patterns influenced by Panther Branch ( Brandon ) and it was hammer time. I chucked a different patterns to ranging from crawfish to mops.

My personal best. SMASHED the mouse.

I wish more people would care for the lake above and what they chuck in the water. I want to clean this place every time I leave. Along with taking better care of the fish and move to barbless hooks. Maybe one day!

Enjoy!
-Dave

Dave, great report! That crappie is an absolute slab...

You don't live in Greensboro, NC by chance do you? If so, I recognize your spot and we should fish together sometime... If not, you have a spot that is darn near identical to a place where I live.

True. I just wish more people cared. When they release the dam is allows for a new batch of fish. :)

HA! I was just thinking the exact same thing!

Dave: How do you like that Behemoth reel? Does it scratch/skuff easily? The price point is sure attractive.

I really enjoy the reel. It does scratch easy but I am ruff with my equipment. The drag works very well ( used the same reel for bonefish ). I plan on picking up the new color ( matte olive-ish ) and a smaller one for a 5/6wt. The price is flat out insane. And extra spools being under $60!

You have to do it. Warm water on the fly is often over looked. 3wt and Sunfish :)

Great pics and thanks for sharing. A great place by the looks of it. Sometimes I am glad that warmwater fisheries don't always get the respect that they deserve. It allows us to fish places just like that, and since we seldom leave with a stringer, folks that do see us think we are wasting our time. :)

Are there any fishing clubs in the area that could pull some manpower together, maybe even bring in some high school kids and clean the general area up if that's what you're talking about. Places that have that kind of fish tend to bring in people who don't have the attitude of most of us in leaving a place cleaner than we came. Every time I fish I end up hauling out a bag full of trash. Ain't just warm water fishing either. I used to go up some of the Lake Superior streams fishing to first barrier for lake run fish and usually coming out with a net full of trash I'd pick up on the way back from the barrier.

The fish you're showing makes me want to drive there tomorrow...but it's halfway across the country. Been over in that country motorcycling a couple of times but never fished except in NE TN in TVA lakes and a few rivers.

Thanks guys! Hoping to head out there tonight.

We will be cleaning the place up. I would rather keep the spot low key as it is not very large.

Places like that are why I just bought a kayak. Most of them are so overgrown along the banks, that it's the only safe way to fish along the shore.
