What a dandy story! Great pics of the region and local landmarks!

Apparently the gentleman had a bit of difficulty catching a fish?

I think I'm gonna move heaven and earth to make it up there next year if they have another conclave. Even if I don't catch any fish, which I prolly won't, I just would like to see that part of the country and experience some small-town life in an Amish area, as opposed to this urban sprawl I'm held captive to now.

If you have to choose between being a good photographer or a good fisherman, I think the latter might be preferable. You can catch fish, so by my reckoning you're ahead! You can always get better at photography...while you're catching fish!

Nice pair of Brookies ! ... which reminds me to ask all of the regular Driftless contributors here ... how is the "gill lice" situation affecting the trout populations there, i.e., do you see much of it on the fish that you are catching ??

@Del... yeah the rain finally caught up during the shoot. It'd rained pretty good for like 7 of the last 10 days. It really came down on the last day. Fishing was tough. Colin wanted to throw in the towel but we refused to let him leave without a fish.

@brane... those are some quality looking brookies you caught there!

@pecos... I see it now and again. I don't see it as often as some would want you to believe. I can tell you the stream Brane was on has a gill lice problem.

Eric,

You appear to be an all-weather kinda guy who likes to take pics with his phone. Dunno if y'all get many thunderstorms up there, but if you do, there's a neat app for your phone called 'Lightning Camera' that helps you take lightning pics with your phone camera. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but plan to as soon as I get near some lightning. We get lots down here in the summer. I also just bought a lightning trigger for my DSLR. Gonna see how that works, too.

Last time I was out there none of the brooks I caught had it. Though last year one well known brookie stream was infested with it. Just depends where you are. In northern Wisconsin I see it on maybe 1 of every 50 fish. I think the character of the streams up here prevents it from becoming a nuisance. And the fact that less fertile streams allow fewer trout per mile helps to not crowd fish.

Hey thanks a lot for that one. I'll have to check it out.

Vernon county saw 2-4" of rain. Reports that Richland county also saw 1-3". It's ugly out there. Ran into a farmer that said he ain't see this much rain in 10 years... 2007 wasn't a good year for the driftless. Let's hope this isn't a trend.

Looks like liquid mud. Last few days we've had a couple of pretty fierce storms. One went through this afternoon. The Bone Daddy was not happy.

5-7" dropped in the area last night. Looking at more rain on Friday. Did a loop from Viroqua to Readstown to Coon Valley. It's a mess everywhere. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

How about something less depressing... here's some shots from this past Sunday. Hit a few different streams in the area after the last rain event. Some stayed the same. Some saw major changes. But they all fished very well.

These supposedly 100 year floods are coming way too often it seems. Some streams still have visible damage from the big rains last September. Hopefully they recover well from this latest deluge.

This time of the year the fish rebound ok. It's spring and fall flooding that can really put a hurt on a stream and wipe out entire year classes.

Snuck outside the confines of the driftless to check out some new water but got distracted by a bunch of fungi...

Ghost Pipe, not fungi but rather a plant lacking chlorophyll

Well, that's one plus with all the rain you have been getting!
