I am an old dog belatedly relearning old tricks -- in this case, fishing with fiberglass rods. Its the way I started in this game 60 years ago. For the life of me I cannot tell you why I switched over completely to graphite to the point that I even gave away a dozen or so glass rods from my youth -- including several once highly prized Heddons. ( Hence, my username here.)

I am slowly getting into the swing beginning with two UL grade 3wts of no particular distinction and a recently purchased ORVIS Superfine 8'6" 6WT that is my first step up toward higher class glass. I'm hoping to learn a lot more here before plunging into serious custom glass acquisitions.

I'll be asking more questions than offering advice although I have always had an urge to write " I don't know what I'm talking about but..."

Regards,
Heddonist

Welcome to the board. The Orvis is a nice acquisition, but you will find that many of us enjoy our rods of no particular distinction as much as we enjoy the more expensive and celebrated rods. I have rods at both ends of the spectrum and enjoy almost all of them.

Welcome! Where are you from, what do you fish for? And tell us about the 3 wts of no distinction. We are interested in them all, and the lighter rods are hard to find.

Newfydog,

I live near Wash DC now but grew up in MI.

I now mainly fish for trout in PA streams and small mouth in rivers and large mouth in lakes here in VA. I have done a lot of GL steel head and salmon fishing in MI. Long ago I also fished several of the trout waters in Bosnia.

I really like to fish streamers, nymphs, and soft hackles. Not a dry fly purist by any means and do not chase the hatches but old attractor patterns -- Wulffs, , Brown Drake Stimulators, Royal Coachmen (Trudes especially), and Adams -- are always in my vest and do their time raising fish on the water. Oh, and mice in dim light.

I am toying with the musky chasing game this spring here in VA.

My two 3 wt glass rods are a GCR from Cabela's and a custom rod from Midwest custom Fly Rods in Royal Oak MI. Both are yet to be seriously tested on major fish.

one thing that always helps is filling out your location in your profile.
It's tells something about your home water without us having to ask - and reminds us every time we see you post.
