ARReflections:
"My rod collection, if you could call it that, is bare bones. I am sure your group is already familiar with the 4/5 wt Steffen. Otherwise a graphite 6 wt Hardy Smuggler for windier conditions. Looking to add one more rod and then I am done. Yeah boring, I know."

Eric,
I noticed you have your Hardy Smuggler for sale. Now you just have to come to the gathering and take a gander at some of the rods that will come out.

Another thought has occurred to me. How many people are interested in bringing a canoe or kayak to do some float fishing? I can bring both, but I don't really want to bother if there is not much interest in using water craft. I know there are outfitters in the area that can provide a canoe or kayak for those who don't own one. Most of the areas available are wadeable. What are your thoughts on this?

Larry,

Still planning on coming. I need to call and reserve. Yeah, the smuggler is a nice one for sure but life and priorities etc...

Yes, I am worried about said rods and resulting effect!

Hello everyone,
I joined the site not long ago. I am interested in making this trip. I would need a tent site. I have a 2wt Echo Fiberglas and a 4wt TFO finesse outfit that I will probably bring.
I'll contact the folks at the camp site tomorrow. Thanks for setting this up.

As mentioned earlier, I plan to arrive on May 15. I don't want to drive nearly 400 miles one way for just a couple of days fishing. By arriving early, I plan to range a little further afield. I definitely want to run over to Pedernales Falls State Park for a day. I thought another day could be spent on the Sabinal, Nueces, or Upper Guadalupe. Aside from myself, my friend Kurt, and hopefully my grandson, I know at least another one or two guys from the Ultralight forum plan to arrive early. Anybody else planning on arriving earlier in the week?

Just got off the phone with Jeff Jackson, one of the TFO reps, and he is planning to join us. Jeff joined us at our eastern Oklahoma Cedar Lake outing a few years ago and was a very welcome participant. The only Hill Country fishing he has ever done was on the San Marcos once, and he is looking forward to trying some more.

I should be able to make it, but I may stay at the hotel.

Curtis, why would you want to stay at the hotel when you could lie in your tent and listen to the chorus of snoring from adjacent campers? I mean, after all, that is just part of the overall ambiance of a conclave. Restful nights are overrated. Besides, you will be tempted to have breakfast at the hotel instead of waking to a gourmet dining experience at the camp. By the way, what are the room rates at the hotel? ;)

I think I stayed at Fort McKavitt Inn last time. It was cheap, not fancy, but just fine for a fishing trip. I don’t mean to be antisocial, but I need somewhere to plug in my cpap machine.

Well, the trout in the guad have all been giving me the fin this year. I’m looking forward to socializing with some warmwater fish.

Same here with the trout in Blue River. Except for the trip to Aurelio's year before last, I haven't caught any trout in 2 years. It seems like when I show up at Blue River, not only do I not catch anything, but neither does anybody else. A friend who has accompanied me on 3 or 4 outings, failed to catch anything while with me, but went twice last week by himself and caught 3 on Thursday and about 20 on Friday. I don't seem to speak trout anymore, but still communicate pretty well with their warm water brethren.

New to the group, but I just booked reservations at Ft. McKavitt Inn for the 18th, and 19th.
I look forward to meeting y'all.
I'm going to try and get a Blue Halo 3wt built up in time for the meeting.

Looking forward to meeting you likewise. I think you will like the Blue Halo 3 weight. I have enjoyed mine. I would probably fish it more often, but I have quite a few 2 and 3 weight rods in the rotation.

If this is not in the correct area, I apologize.
I have not fished this area before.
Can some of those who have fished this area before recommend what flies I should tie up?

Thanks

Some of the other guys that have fished the area streams more than I have can probably give more answers, but flies I found useful are wooly buggers, Briminators, Llano Bugs, hopper patterns, Clousers, poppers, etc. Also nymphs, especially for the Rios. When we were fishing Brushy Creek near Georgetown we did well on crickets, foam beetles, ants, and even soft hackles. Aaron (TXH2Oman) has had very good results with his version of the Mini Master Splinter Mouse.

Ozzie,

Gurglepops, llanolopes, cat whiskers, and brushy creek streamers are good options, too.

Larry,

Thank you. I do have all of those tied.

Bassakwards, I had not even seen those patterns.
I will give some of those a shot.

I love this sport. Always something to learn.

I left the dash out of gurgle-pop, so you may have had trouble finding it: http://www.fishingwithflies.com/Pete'sG ... opper.html. It’s my favorite fly for a quick and easy tie.

Yellow with tan craft fur is a good color for the Llano. This is pretty close to the llanolope, but the llanolope makes a (surprisingly) bigger pop. All grey is a good imitation of the little frogs commonly found in the Spring.

This event continues to grow. Counting members from this forum, the Ultralight forum, and even Texas Fishing Forum, we might be up to 21 people so far. Not all are definite, but most are. So far from the glass site:
Canoeman1947 (me)
OKMike (and possibly his girlfriend)
Catmanjack
ARReflections (and hopefully his brother-in-law)
Crappiecat
Davo
bassackwards
Ozzietx
My grandson Logan
TXH2Oman
Bud
3102yuma (and friend Rob)
I'm sure there may be some changes before May 18, but so far this is shaping up to be a pretty good event.

Larry

Not to take away from this event but, just putting this here in case anyone might be interested:
http://alamoflyfishers.com/bud-priddy-2018/

I'm normally not into fishing contests or tournaments, but the Bud Priddy "Any Fly" contest is for the most part non-competitive and a lot of fun.
As far as Texas Hill Country rivers, you can't find too many that are prettier than the Nueces River around Camp Wood.
