Just a heads up that a full service fly fishing shop is coming back to the DC/MD/NVA region. District Angling will be located in the Cherrydale neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. Right up the street from the original Angler's Lie for those who remember that old home away from home.

In addition to the major brands of graphite rods, reels, lines etc., we will be carrying fiberglass and bamboo rods both new (from boutique makers) and used, lines designed for glass and cane, and new and used reels for the same.

We will also be looking to carry more and more items from smaller manufacturers as we grow. In other words we won't just be carrying the same old same old.

A very large fly tying department should satisfy all the area tyers who like picking out their own materials instead of leaving that to "online" chance. For those who don't tie, the in stock selection of flies will have you covered. Flies from major producers and custom tiers will be available.

Tying classes, casting lessons, guided trips, and travel services will all be here at District Angling.

Community outreach and participation with clubs and youth groups will also be a big part of District Angling.

We are looking at opening sometime in September. You can find us online at our website http://districtangling.com/ (it's in flux as it's being built out), or search for district angling on Facebook and Instagram. We will be posting photos and news of the buildout as we progress.

One step done and another begun...light cams in, track for wall lighting in, wall patching begun.

Let there be light...with the electrician finished we can get the electrical inspection and then paint the ceiling and the part of the upper wall that will remain exposed. After that things will MOVE!

Exciting! Here's wishing you the best of success. I hope to visit the area again someday, and if I do will find the shop and stop in.

Tomah, looking forward to it.

Carl, at the beginning I told Richie it would be late September before we opened, based on 43 years of construction experience. He chose to be unrealistically enthusiastic....

Progress. Lighting all in, main room duct work finished, walls fire blocked/soundproofed/bulkheaded and smooth coated and handicap ramp and steps finished today. Next, electrical inspection. Then the pretty stuff starts going in.

Harry is over the flue and back to work. Ceiling getting final coat. Flat black when it dries. Yesterday and today the ceiling and upper walls get painted. The flooring contractor is bring by samples today and will start putting it down in a week and a half. In the meantime I’ll install doors and frames and the wall treatments will go on. I can say for sure now we will be open in November.

Richie and Harry tired but happy, worked until midnight getting it done.

We have passed our final inspections after a long and torturous journey. The shop will be stocked over the weekend and open for business on Monday the 18th. A photo reveal of the new District Angling fly shop will be posted then.

Cheers, Bob Smith

Always nice to see new shops popping up. Wisconsin's Driftless Angler just got an upgrade to a bigger space so I'm looking forward to checking that out this spring.
