Kurt and I made our first foray onto Rock Creek this weekend. I had to try out my new Butter Stick 2 weight. The fish are finally showing up and moving. We saw several nice bass, but they didn't want to come out and play with us. However, the bluegills were cooperative. The stream is looking pretty good. I wouldn't mind getting a little more rain between now and the end of April; just hope it doesn't wait until then to really come down.

We need to bring it back to Texas at some point. Many of us Texas guys aren't getting any younger or healthier and it would be nice to get together again while we still are able. I'm committed on the 29th so I can't make it to OK.

We've been in Texas several times, but it seems to be the same people showing up every time. We have at times considered not even bothering to post about a gathering, since it has just been mostly our base group showing up each time. Would be delighted to have other people show up.

I will be retiring in September, so I will be free for a Hill Country trip at almost a moment's notice. Wouldn't mind going back to Jack's place again either. Hell, I'll go almost anywhere, except maybe way up in the mountains where the air is thin. My aging lungs enjoy thick air.

It was pretty windy here today, but despite the wind, Kurt and I went back to Rock Creek this afternoon. I used my new CGR 6'2" 2 weight with a Barrio Small Stream WF2 line. That rod and line were made for each other. The rod loaded in close and reached out much further than I expected from a 2 weight. We started out catching bluegills and green sunfish, which felt pretty good on a 2 weight. Then I caught a 12" spotted bass which put a serious bend in the rod, but the rod handled it easily enough. About 30 minutes later when we got into a deep area bordered by some big rocks, I hooked into and landed a really nice 14" spotted bass. Kurt also caught a smallie, but suffered fish envy as his bass was much smaller. After I arrived home, I put the reel with the Barrio WF2 on my new Butter Stick 2 weight. I had mentioned a few days ago that when casting it with a line I thought to be a 2 weight, it felt like it didn't quite load properly. The Barrio line felt great on that rod. Mike had mentioned a time or two he liked the Barrio lines, and now Kurt and I are very much in agreement with him. I have the Small Stream series in WF2 and WF3, and the Mallard line in DT2, but haven't had a chance to try the Mallard line yet. Right now the creek is looking great, and it appears the fishing should be really good this year, providing we don't get heavy rains in time for the clave.

As I had mentioned earlier, I will try to go in and set up camp early before somebody else grabs the spot. I talked to the camp host and he said the campsite we want is usually filled by Thursday, so I will probably go in on either Monday (Apr. 24) or Tuesday (Apr. 25) and get camp set up. Les had told me that he and Jeff will probably come in on Thursday evening. Is anybody else planning on coming before Friday?. As mentioned before there are only two sites in the campground with electricity, and the Camp Host site is already taken. If the other site is taken, we will have to move elsewhere, and I will let you know ahead of time.

The weather for later in the week is looking somewhat shaky, especially next Saturday. Right now weather.com is predicting a 50% chance of thunderstorms on Thursday and 80% on Saturday. Kurt has a sinus infection and will try to come in later in the week. I may take my tent down tomorrow afternoon in order to put a hold on the camp site. I have to be back home early Tuesday afternoon to help with replacing our vent hood microwave. My wife and I didn't realize how much we use it until it went out on us. A couple of local friends are planning on coming down on Wednesday, and I hope to get them to stay a day or so. I hope the weather pattern changes later in the week. (For the good that is).

The forecasts are crazy for this week. Bouncing back and forth from thunderstorms to clear weather, back to storms, etc. I put my tent on the camp site this afternoon to ensure the site would be available. I will move the rest of my stuff in tomorrow afternoon. In the morning I will meet up with a couple of other guys and fish Rock Creek, which will give me a chance to check out a different section of the creek than I have been fishing lately. Wednesday sounds a little cool for wading, so I will probably just walk some trails and explore a little. For Les, Jeff, and Carl: I am set up at the same campsite we used last time. Mike, when you camped with Kurt and me, we were at the Camp Host site. This time we are directly behind that site. As you enter the campground, follow the road around to the right. There are wooden posts with numbers on top just before each camp site. After you pass camp site #7 and are coming up on #9, turn left and follow the road around to #12.
